Bryce Mitchell Gets New Undefeated Opponent for UFC Vegas 118

Bryce Mitchell will stay on the UFC Vegas 118 card on June 6th at the Meta Apex. He will take on undefeated Santiago Luna in the bantamweight division. Luna replaces Victor Henry.

Multiple sources have confirmed the news to Heavy.com after a report from MMA Latinoamérica. Mitchell won his most recent fight last year against Said Nurmagomedov. Luna is one of the brightest prospects out of Mexico and has won his two fights in the Octagon.

Looking To Get Two Wins In A Row

Bryce Mitchell looks to secure his second win in a row. The former featherweight fighter came into the UFC after competing on season 27 of The Ultimate Fighter. Mitchell got eliminated in the semi-finals. He was later signed by the UFC and debuted at the finale, winning a close majority decision against Tyler Diamond. Mitchell went on a great streak in the UFC with wins over Andre Fili and Edson Barboza. The American fighter was close to a top contender fight but lost at the end of 2022 to the later champion Ilia Topuria.

Mitchell then had trouble putting together back-to-back wins and lost the fights against Josh Emmett and Jean Silva. After the Silva loss last June, Mitchell decided to drop down in weight and continue his quest for the title in the bantamweight division. Mitchell went off to a great start with a win over Said Nurmagomedov. Now he has to fight an undefeated prospect in Santiago Luna.

Undefeated Top Prospect Out Of Mexico

Opponent Luna takes the fight on just over a week’s notice. The 21-year-old Mexican is one of the brightest prospects in the UFC bantamweight division. Luna had a 100% finishratio in his first six professional fights with two knockout wins and four submission wins. The Mexican fighter made his debut during the Noche UFC card last year, where he knocked out Quang Le in the first round.

In his most recent fight, he went for the first time to the scorecards. Mainly because his opponent, Angel Pacheco, had an iron chin, he won the fight not by finish but via unanimous decision. He lost his 100% finish ratio but was still undefeated. Now, with only one-and-a-half weeks’ notice, he gets a massive opportunity, taking on an established fighter like Mitchell.
