Browns QB Shedeur Sanders Ignites New Speculation After Latest Move

Shedeur Sanders is building something new amid speculation about his future.

The Cleveland Browns quarterback launched a new set of social media accounts under the handle “ss2legendary” on Sunday, quickly amassing tens of thousands of followers across platforms. The move comes as speculation continues to swirl around a potential jersey number change heading into his second NFL season.

Sanders went live on Instagram from the new account, appearing to show him working out with Browns teammates — including wide receiver Gage Larvadain — from a pilates class. On X, the account kept it simple with a handful of motivational posts.

“Saw no results… still woke up and chased it,” one post read.

The accounts only follow one person — Shedeur Sanders.

Shedeur Sanders and the No. 2 Question

The new accounts only add to the growing speculation that Sanders could take the field next season wearing a different number.

Sanders wore No. 2 throughout high school and into college — first at Jackson State, then at Colorado. The Buffaloes retired the number at the conclusion of his career. It’s the number baked into his personal brand, his apparel line, and his public identity.

He didn’t get to wear it in Cleveland last season. When the Browns assigned jersey numbers to their 2025 rookie class, veteran wide receiver DeAndre Carter — a seven-year NFL journeyman who had never worn No. 2 at any point in his career — claimed it first.

The reaction from Sanders’ camp was swift. Boogie Knight, a member of his media team, posted — and later deleted — a complaint on Instagram, saying there was “no way” Sanders shouldn’t have had the number, despite being a fifth-round pick. Sanders himself handled it with a laugh at rookie minicamp.

“Nah, I’m not trying to buy anything. My signing bonus ain’t that high right now,” Sanders said at the time.

Carter is no longer with the Browns and Deion Sanders revealed this week that his son is thinking about making the switch.

“He’s switching up his numbers. He’s thinking about going to No. 2 instead of No. 12,” Deion said on his show “We Got Time Today.”

The new accounts only add fuel to the fire that Sanders could be running out on the field with a different number on his jersey next season.

Shedeur Sanders Frontrunner to Start for Browns

Sanders started the final seven games of his rookie season, going 3-4 with 1,400 passing yards, seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He added 169 rushing yards and a score. He enters the offseason in an “open competition” with Deshaun Watson under new head coach Todd Monken.

The Browns have been careful not to give either quarterback an edge. But Monken has been impressed with what he’s seen from Sanders on tape.

“I think what you see is elite playmaking ability. That’s in him,” Monken said. “You’ve seen it. We’ve seen it. You saw it in college. You saw it on tape last year. Sure, there’s a ways to go. But what rookie isn’t, I mean, what first year player doesn’t have a long way to go? So, I’m excited to get started with him and all of our quarterbacks and all of our players.”

Despite a coaching change, Sanders is widely viewed as the frontrunner after finishing last season as the starter. The Browns have also made no additions to the quarterback room, leaving the path clear. Unless Watson returns at an undeniable level after missing more than a year and playing just 19 games since 2020, Sanders should have the inside track to the job.
