The Cleveland Browns received a solid boost on Saturday following the Jacksonville Jaguars’ 27-24 loss to the Buffalo Bills in an AFC Wild Card matchup.
Buffalo sealed the win with a late touchdown, ending Jacksonville’s season. The Browns acquired Jacksonville’s first-rounder in last year’s draft after trading down from No. 2 overall to No. 6, where they selected defensive tackle Mason Graham. The Jaguars used the No. 2 pick to select Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter.
With Jacksonville eliminated, that pick will now fall at either No. 23 or No. 24 overall, depending on the outcomes of the remaining playoff games.
The Browns need all the help they can get as they look to build their roster after a 5-12 campaign. The Browns will pick No. 6 overall with their first selection. Cleveland won its final two games of the season, which bumped them out of contention for a top pick.
Browns May Target First Round Quarterback
The Browns have no shortage of needs this offseason, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Much of the offensive line is set to hit free agency, and Cleveland still lacks proven depth at wide receiver.
Even so, quarterback remains one of the organization’s biggest question marks, and it’s a position the Browns are expected to evaluate thoroughly as they work toward April’s draft.
“I think you can think about what everyone felt like we knew about the quarterback landscape this time last year, about what we thought we knew about the draft. There’s a lot of work to be done with this entire draft class,” Browns GM Andrew Berry said. “And again, you want to do that in partnership with your new head coach as well. I wish I could give you a little bit more in that regard, but it’s a long process to get through the assessment of this year’s passers.”
Browns Do Not Commit to Shedeur Sanders
The Browns have not committed to quarterback Shedeur Sanders moving forward, though he could still be part of the equation. Sanders started the final seven games of the season, going 3-4 in those games while passing for 1,400 yards, seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
“I think we saw a lot of progress with Shedeur this year. I think that’s both mentally, physically, playing the position,” Berry said. “Now that all being said, we’re going to do our work on the quarterback market. It’s too important of a position and it’s something that has to be solidified. I can’t sit here and tell you today, you know, whether the solution for or the starter in 2026 is internal or external. But it’s something that we’re going to work through over the next several weeks. And quite honestly, the new head coach will also have a lot of input into that as well.”
The Browns will also have Dillon Gabriel and Deshaun Watson on the roster. Cleveland could decide to run it back and see how Sanders performs with an improved supporting cast.
