Browns Add 94-TD QB in Draft as Threat to Shedeur Sanders

The Cleveland Browns have added a quarterback to their roster in the back end of the NFL Draft, which adds another element to the quarterback conversation.

The Browns selected dual-threat Arkansas passer Taylen Green in the sixth round. Green, who stands 6-foot-6 and 235 pounds, ran a 4.38-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine. It was the third fastest time among quarterbacks, behind only Lamar Jackson and Michael Vick. He’ll arrive in Cleveland as a high-upside prospect with elite physical tools, though still in need of significant refinement.

There’s been some conversation about Green changing positions, but Browns general manager Andrew Berry shut that idea down.

“The quarterback position is the most important in sports. Taylen is very mature, has size, elite speed, and a big arm,” Berry said. “Gonna need some polish to his game. We’re not moving him [to another position].”

Green will join a quarterback room that includes Shedeur Sanders, Deshaun Watson and Dillon Gabriel. The Browns said prior to Day 3 of the draft that they’d be open to adding a passer to the depth chart.

“We’ll always add talent at the most important position,” Berry said on Friday. “That’s full stop. Doesn’t matter who’s in the room. If there’s a quarterback that we like, that’s available to us at the right cost, we’ll add that player.

Browns QB Taylen Green Put Up Big Numbers in College

Green began his college career at Boise State, where he earned Mountain West Freshman of the Year honors in 2022, before transferring to Arkansas ahead of the 2024 season.

In his first season with the Razorbacks, Green threw for 3,154 yards and 15 touchdowns while rushing for 602 yards and eight scores.

In 2025, Green completed 60.7% of his passes for 2,714 yards, 19 touchdowns and 11 interceptions across 12 games. He also ran for a career-high 777 yards and eight more touchdowns on the ground, averaging 64.8 rushing yards per game.

For his career across 53 games, Green compiled 9,662 passing yards, 59 passing touchdowns and 35 interceptions, while rushing for 2,405 yards and 35 more scores.

Dane Brugler of The Athletic called Green “one of the most physically gifted players in the 2026 draft class at any position,” highlighting his competitiveness and ability to create outside the pocket, while noting inconsistency progressing through reads and a tendency to hesitate on throws over the middle.

Browns QB Situation Remains Unsettled

The Browns got their first live look at all three incumbent quarterbacks in the days leading up to the draft, as Watson, Gabriel and Sanders participated in the team’s voluntary veteran minicamp. Sanders took initial first-team reps during the sessions.

Berry offered a positive early read on his existing group.

“The three guys have done a really nice job so far this spring,” he said. “They are all learning the offense quickly, working through their mistakes, and throwing the ball well.”

The Browns drafted Gabriel in the third round and Sanders in the fifth round last year. Watson has not played a full season since 2020 and is entering the final guaranteed year of his deal.
