The Denver Broncos may now have a path toward bringing back one of their most productive offensive players from last season.
According to DNVR Broncos insider Zac Stevens, running back J.K. Dobbins remains firmly in the mix to return to Denver.
Stevens, who is widely viewed as one of the most plugged-in reporters covering the Broncos, shared the update Monday morning.
âJ.K. Dobbins remains very much in the mix to return to the Broncos, according to multiple sources,â Stevens wrote on social media.
The update is notable because Denver has been linked to several potential running back options throughout the offseason. With the early free agency market beginning to take shape on Day 1 of free agency, Stevensâ report suggests the Broncos could ultimately decide to keep a familiar face in their backfield rather than pursue an outside addition.
Dobbins proved to be a valuable piece of Denverâs offense when healthy, providing explosiveness and balance to the Broncosâ attack.
Now, with free agency in full swing, the possibility of Dobbins returning appears very real.
Familiar Option Could Make Sense for Denver
Keeping Dobbins would offer a level of continuity for the Broncosâ offense.
Sean Payton has often emphasized the importance of reliability in the run game, and Dobbins demonstrated he could be a dependable contributor when healthy.
Before J.K. Dobbins suffered his Week 10 injury in 2025, the Denver Broncos had one of the NFLâs most efficient rushing attacks. They averaged 128.6 rushing yards and 4.76 yards per carry per game.
After his injury, Denverâs ground game declined sharply to just 104.6 yards and 3.94 yards per carry, highlighting the major impact Dobbins had on the offenseâs explosiveness and consistency.Â
While other running back names like Breece Hall, Kenneth Walker III, Tyler Allgeier and Travis Etienne have circulated in offseason rumors, Stevensâ report indicates Denver may not need to look far to find its next lead option.
If the Broncos ultimately decide to bring Dobbins back, the move could allow the team to maintain offensive stability while focusing its resources on addressing other offensive roster needs as free agency continues to unfold. Â
The only major question surrounding Dobbins has been his durability and ability to stay healthy. Injuries throughout his career have often interrupted stretches of strong production.
But it appears the Broncos may be willing to take that risk.
Broncos Out on Tyler Allgeier
Stevens also recently reported another important development regarding Denverâs running back plans.
According to the DNVR insider, the Broncos are not pursuing Atlanta Falcons running back Tyler Allgeier despite speculation that the physical runner could be a potential target.
âI have not heard any Broncos connection with Tyler Allgeier in the weeks leading up to free agency,â Stevens wrote in a separate post. âThey are officially out on him.â
The update removes one potential option from Denverâs running back search. Allgeier had generated buzz among analysts because of his downhill running style and ability to complement RJ Harvey well.
But with Denver now confirmed to be out on Allgeier, attention shifts back toward other possibilities, including the most likely option of simply re-signing Dobbins.
