Brock Purdy Has Strong Feelings About Raiders Hiring Klint Kubiak: Exclusive

Klint Kubiak is set to join the Las Vegas Raiders as the franchise’s next head coach once the Super Bowl ends. Though he’s still in his 30s, Kubiak has spent time with many franchises around the NFL.

One of his most impactful stints was as the pass game coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers in 2023. That job helped him get back in the fold as a top offensive coordinator candidate, which paved the way for him to get a head coaching job.

Quarterback Brock Purdy only had that one season with Kubiak, but the coach left a strong impression on him.

“He’s awesome, man,” Purdy told Heavy Sports when asked about Kubiak becoming a head coach. “Really smart. It was pretty cool to have him come in that 2023 year, with his experiences, and then also learn from Kyle (Shanahan) and vice versa. Both of them bouncing ideas off each other when it comes to offense.

“But the way Klint handles himself, how he thinks, and what he believes, as a man, who he is, I could tell he’s a leader of men for sure. So for him to be able to get an opportunity as a head coach, I’m really happy for him, excited for him and he deserves it.”

Is Kubiak to Raiders a Done Deal?

Unfortunately for the Raiders, they can’t actually officially seal the deal with Kubiak until after the Super Bowl. That will lead to some concern that there’s a chance he could change his mind.

However, that is highly unlikely. ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirmed that signing the contract is essentially a formality at this point.

“This deal is going to get done after the Super Bowl,” Schefter said on the “Adam Schefter Podcast.” “They’ll have to negotiate it and finalize it and agree to terms. But look, this is not hard to get done. This is a simple deal to do and all you really have to wind up doing is look at what some of these other head coaches got, all the rookie head coaches.

“Last year, Klint Kubiak’s agent represented Ben Johnson when he got a deal done for Chicago. All the numbers are right there. You and I could do this deal in five minutes time, okay? So he’s gonna be the next head coach of the Raiders once they get the deal done, which will be after the Super Bowl, which will not be hard to figure out and get done.”

Kubiak Almost Didn’t Get Into Coaching

Kubiak’s father, Gary Kubiak, is a Super Bowl-winning head coach, but he wanted to make a name for himself. However, it’s hard to make money in the coaching ranks when you’re first starting out.

This led to Kubiak leaving coaching briefly for a job doing inventory for an oil company. That didn’t last long, as the desire to coach never left his mind.

“I just wanted to see what life was like outside of football,” Kubiak said. “It wasn’t terrible. It was a great job, but I found out pretty quickly something was missing and that was the joy of being a coach.

“I don’t remember a lot about that job other than I knew I was out of my element.”
