Brittney Griner Abruptly Cuts Ties With Atlanta Dream Days After Angel Reese Trade

Despite ongoing WNBA rumors, Brittney Griner will not be teaming up with Atlanta Dream star Angel Reese. Days after the blockbuster WNBA trade between the Dream and Chicago Sky, Griner has agreed to terms on a new lucrative deal with the Connecticut Sun, per the team’s sideline reporter Terrika Foster-Brasby.

“BREAKING: Sources confirm the Sun are finalizing a 7- figure deal to bring WNBA Champion and 10x WNBA All Star Brittney Griner to Connecticut,” Foster-Brasby detailed in a series of April 10, 2026, messages on X.

“Griner is a Houston native. With the Sun franchise moving to Houston, this gives Griner an opportunity to continue her career in her hometown, should the deal be multi-year.”

The Dream still have plenty of talent despite Griner’s departure, but some fans were looking forward to seeing Reese and the veteran center share the frontcourt together in Atlanta.

Here’s what you need to know about the latest WNBA news.

Angel Reese on Atlanta Dream Trade: ‘I Just Feel That Urge Right Now That I’m Going to Win Again’

As for Reese, the new Dream star appears thrilled to be heading to the ATL. Reese discussed having an urge to win with the Dream.

“Transferring from Maryland and going to LSU and winning a championship, it feels like deja vu right now,” Reese said of the Sky-Dream trade, per New York Post. “And I get chills right now because being a part of Chicago my first two years and going to Atlanta, I just feel that urge right now that I’m going to win again.

“And having that within me and just being able to do that — It’s not easy to go be by yourself in the dark and those lonely nights and those long nights thinking by yourself. Social media has it out there to be one way. But at the end of the day, you gotta sit with yourself and tell yourself what you want in life and continue to put yourself in spaces and rooms feel super uncomfortable.”

Brittney Griner Bolts Star-Studded Atlanta Dream Roster for Connecticut Sun

There is still no shortage of talent on the Dream roster Reese is joining. Alisha Gray, Brionna Jones and Rhyne Howard are among the WNBA stars expected to be on the Atlanta roster with Reese when the season tips off.

All signs point to Griner now finishing her career with the Sun. The IX Sports’ Deyscha Smith outlined what fans can expect with the Griner signing.

“In BG, they’ll get a WNBA Champion, 10x All-Star, 2x DPOY and a veteran – which the Sun still need to help carry them into their Sunset season, all while they rebuild ahead of the move to Houston – where Griner is from,” Smith explained on X.

“With the loss of Marina Mabrey to Toronto and the question of whether free agent Tina Charles, who did announce to Sun fans last season that she would be returning to CT (though, nothing is official until she re-signs), the question of who can help guide their young core now seems a bit more clear.”
