Breece Hall Predicted to Leave Jets for AFC Contender

The New York Jets enter the 2026 offseason with star running back Breece Hall, arguably their most productive player during the 2025 regular season, set to hit free agency.

Hall, who was selected by the Jets with the 36th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft and has spent all four seasons of his career in New York, is projected to sign with another team this offseason, according to ESPN NFL analyst Aaron Schatz.

In his latest offseason predictions, Schatz projects Hall to sign with the Houston Texans ahead of the 2026 season.

“I’ve heard plenty of potential new homes for running back Breece Hall, but never Houston. Why not?,” wrote Schatz. “Joe Mixon’s career might be over after he missed the 2025 season because of a foot injury, and Marks looks more suited as a rotation player than lead back. The Texans need a strong running game to eat clock and complement their ferocious defense.”

Hall is expected to be one of the top players available in the 2026 free-agency class, coming off arguably the best season of his career after finishing with 1,065 rushing yards and 350 receiving yards.

The pending free-agent running back became the first Jet to surpass the 1,000-yard rushing milestone in a regular season since Chris Ivory rushed for 1,070 yards in 2015, according to StatMuse.

If Hall were to leave the Jets in the offseason, New York would lose their most relied-upon offensive asset from the 2025 season.

Hall’s Free Agency Outlook

Garrett Podell of CBS Sports has Hall listed as the 1st overall running back and 9th overall player set to be available in 2026 free agency.

“His 5,040 career yards from scrimmage are the second-most from the 2022 NFL Draft class behind only 2025 NFL rushing leader James Cook,” wrote Podell. “Hall’s ability to cut on a dime to produce big plays as both a runner and a pass catcher shines brightly in the darkness that is the Jets’ offense. It’s hard to be a running back when your team is almost always playing from behind, but hopefully Hall can join a team that has a shot at postseason football in 2026.”

Hall was not only the Jets’ leader in the running game but also ranked third in receiving yards (350), behind only star wide receiver Garrett Wilson (395) and rookie tight end Mason Taylor (369), according to ESPN.

Hall is undeniably a legitimate dual-threat running back, dangerous in both the run and passing game, making him one of the top players set to hit free agency.

What Happens If Hall Leaves Jets?

If Hall and the Jets decide not to reunite, New York has running backs Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis.

The two young players have shown potential and could form a 1-2 punch, but the team may also look to free agency to add a more proven presence.

Some of the running backs expected to hit free agency in 2026 include Travis Etienne (Jacksonville Jaguars), Kenneth Gainwell (Pittsburgh Steelers), Javonte Williams (Dallas Cowboys), among others, according to Spotrac.
