As first reported by NFL insider Dianna Russini, New York Giants co-owners Steve, Laurie, and Jonathan Tisch are looking to transfer their stake in the team to their children’s trusts.
Russini reported for The Athletic that the Giants “have requested approval from the NFL’s finance committee for ownership transactions involving the Tisch family.”
ESPN’s Seth Wickersham and Jordan Raanan obtained an NFL memo with this news.
“Prior transfers to these Trusts were completed pursuant to 2023 and 2024 Finance Committee approvals,” the memo states. “The Sellers now propose to transfer their entire remaining interests, totaling 23.1% of the Club, to the Trusts. … Following the transactions, the Sellers will no longer own any interest in the Club.”
Wickersham then provided an update via his X account, stating that the Tisch siblings Steve, Laurie, and Jonathan will “no longer own any interest in the Club.”
The move is dependent on approval from the NFL’s Finance Committee.
The Tisch family first became involved with the Giants in 1991, when Steve, Laurie, and Jonathan’s father, Robert Tisch purchased a 50 percent stake in the club from the Mara family, which has been involved in the ownership of the team since 1925 when the team was founded.
Tisch Family Attempting to Transfer Ownership to Children
This massive move from the Tisch family comes shortly after Steve Tisch was named in files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, released by the Justice Department.
“The documents showed scores of emails between Epstein and Tisch, in which Epstein repeatedly connected the Giants co-owner to numerous women,” Wickersham and Raanan wrote. “Tisch also invited Epstein to the owner’s box for a Giants game.”
“We had a brief association where we exchanged emails about adult women, and in addition, we discussed movies, philanthropy and investments,” Tisch said in a statement. “I did not take him up on any of his invitations and never went to his island. As we all know now, he was a terrible person and someone I deeply regret associating with.”
Tisch has not been convicted of any crimes in relation to his relationship with Epstein.
Steve Tisch’s Future Role With the Team Still Unclear
Though the Tisch siblings share the ownership stake in the Giants, Steve Tisch had the biggest role in the team’s operation. He has served as the Giants chairman and executive vice president since 2005.
According to The Athletic, a Giants spokesperson said Steve Tisch’s role with the team moving forward is “status quo”
Now that he is planning to sell he and his siblings shares to their children, his future role with the team is still unclear. No plans have been announced regarding whether he’ll continue to have a hand in the operation of the franchise.
