The Atlanta Braves are still preparing their roster ahead of the 2026 season. According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Braves are signing Rowdy Tellez to a minor league contract.
Tellez, 31, is fresh off his time with Team Mexico, but is also an 8-year MLB veteran who has played with five MLB teams. Atlanta will be his sixth organization being a part of. In another report, Rowdy Tellez will earn a base salary of $1.25 million if he secures a spot on the big-league roster.

After the minor league deal for Rowdy Tellez, the Braves are adding a slugger with a career .234 average and 122 home runs. He started his career with the Toronto Blue Jays and has also played with the Brewers, Pirates, Rangers, and Mariners.
In 2025, he hit 17 total home runs in 112 games. His power prowess will keep him in an MLB organization, but Tellez will have to prove that he can keep the strikeouts at a minimum if he wants to make the Braves’ big league club.
2022 was his best season as a pro, as Tellez hit 35 home runs in 153 games.

Other Braves Spring Training Notes
Some other notes from the remaining days in Spring Training: Chris Sale will be the team’s Opening Day starter, and JR Ritchie was reassigned to minor league camp, so he will not start the season with the big-league club.
This is another depth signing for Atlanta, which seems to be what the team has been going for this offseason.
Back to the Rowdy Tellez signing, Tellez spent time with the Mariners and Rangers last season, but ended up getting moved to the Rangers halfway through the season. In eight MLB seasons, Tellez has a 0.8 bWAR, 108 doubles, and an OPS+ of 101.
Dominic Smith has been a bright spot during spring training, and he might end up being a bench piece for new manager Walt Weiss, but only time will tell that. It feels like the backup first base/left-handed platoon bat option is now down to Dom Smith and Rowdy Tellez.
