If you get popped for one lengthy PED suspension, you’re likely going to be on the radar of MLB as a potential repeat user. On Tuesday, Atlanta Braves outfielder/DH Jurickson Profar got popped again for PED use, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
This is a massive blow for the Braves, who will not have to search for another bat or rely on another veteran to fill the role.
Here is Passan on the suspension:
“Atlanta Braves designated hitter Jurickson Profar is facing a 162-game suspension after testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug for the second time in the last year, sources told ESPN on Tuesday.”

What Does Jurickson Profar’s Suspension Mean for the Braves?
GettyBraves must replace Jurickson Profar after another PED-suspension
Jurickson Profar missed 82 games last season for the Atlanta Braves, after signing a three-year, $42 million. Profar signed the $42 million deal after a career year with the San Diego Padres.
He is just the sixth player in MLB history to be suspended for a full-162 game season after being a repeat offender. Profar will forfeit his $15 million salary for the upcoming season, and the Braves will now have to find a replacement bat. Mike Yastrzemski will likely still have an everyday role with the Braves, but is now being relied on more heavily to provide in the Braves’ lineup.
The Braves struggled to open the season without Jurickson Profar, so it will be very interesting to see how the team performs during his absence. Atlanta finished 76-86 in 2025.
He hit .245 in 80 games last season with 14 home runs, 43 RBI, and a 121 OPS+. Atlanta played much better when Profar returned, but at that point, the season could not be salvaged.

What Does This Suspension Mean for Baseball
MLB continues to press harder on PED suspensions, and this being a repeat offender is not the best look for baseball.
It’s really more of a bad look on Profar, who should have known not to use any sort of performance enhancer, which he clearly could not resist.
But does baseball have another steroid issue in this current ERA? It seems like there are at least a few players each season who get popped for lengthy suspensions, but maybe MLB being on the ball with this Profar situation is good-ish news for the outlook of future suspensions.
It’s especially tough for Profar, whose career accomplishments will be overshadowed by two consecutive seasons as a PED-offender.
