A 17-year-old boy was fatally hit by a CTA train Tuesday morning in the Rogers Park neighborhood, authorities said.
Police were called about 8:15 a.m. to the Jarvis station, 1523 W. Jarvis Ave., for the boy who was hit by an oncoming train, Chicago police said, adding he was pronounced dead on the scene.
Chicago fire department paramedics also responded to the victim, who was on the tracks, according to a spokesperson. Another person was taken to an area hospital in good condition, according to the spokesperson, who had no further information immediately.
In a social media post, Ald. Maria Hadden (49th), said the person hit by the train had died by suicide.
A teenager has died by suicide this morning at the Jarvis L Station, Hadden’s post said. “This is a tragedy that hurts our whole community. Our condolences to their family and friends,” Hadden said in the post.
The situation has caused delays and a service disruption along the Red Line in the area, according to the CTA, which said no trains were running between the Howard and Thorndale stops.
An autopsy is scheduled and Area 3 detectives are investigating.
