Boston Red Sox Named Fit for 2024 World Series Champion Pitcher

The Boston Red Sox continue to search for rock bottom. With an 8-6 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday night at Fenway Park, the Red Sox fell to 2-8 to start the season, and that has them at the bottom of not only the American League East, but the entire junior circuit.

They need to turn things around quickly if they want to avoid the cellar for the rest of the season. There is talent on the roster, but it’s looking like the Red Sox are about to bury themselves for the rest of the season.

Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report listed the top 10 remaining free agents early on this season and predicted some landing spots for each of them. Right-hander Michael Kopech was among the top listed free agents, and Rymer had the Red Sox listed as a possible fit.

“Despite some bright spots here and there, Michael Kopech’s career has yet to fully launch. And if it’s a question of why he’s still a free agent, you probably have to look no further than his injury history,” Rymer wrote.

“However, we’re still talking about a guy who touched 101 mph last year. And because he gets good extension out of his 6’3”, 220-pound frame, his heat comes in looking even hotter than what the radar gun says.

“He might be the most high-reward free agent left standing. And at this point, the risk of signing him is likely minimal.”

Boston Red Sox named fit for Michael Kopech

Kopech has struggled to stay healthy in recent years. He has become a viable bullpen weapon, but the Los Angeles Dodgers chose not to bring him back this past offseason due to injury concerns.

The right-hander posted a 2.45 ERA in 14 appearances last season, though his season was cut short due to more injuries. However, if he can stay healthy, he can still be a valuable piece out of a bullpen for a contending team.

That could certainly help the Red Sox late in games and give them a better chance to hold onto leads and pick up some wins to get themselves back into the mix. They may have a big hole to climb out of before long, but Kopech is somebody that can serve as a closer if need be, and that could give the Red Sox a major boost as they try to find ways to get through games.

Signing Kopech Wouldn’t Solve All of Red Sox’s Problems

It is important to note that while Kopech could give the bullpen a boost as a low-risk, high-reward type signing, that wouldn’t solve all of Boston’s problems. Their offense has scored just 36 runs this season, and that is the fourth fewest in Major League Baseball.

The loss of Alex Bregman is certainly being felt, and the additions Boston did make don’t appear to be helping them out much, which could lead to them missing the postseason.

Kopech would help though, and it will be interesting to see if Boston decides to give him a look.
