Bold Toronto Blue Jays AL East Prediction Should Leave Yankees Fans Puzzled

Taking a look at the American League East standings through the first (roughly) 35 games or so, and it’s not hard to see that the Yankees have dominated the division to this point. New York sits in first place with an AL-best 23-11 record, and the Rays are in second with a 21-12 mark. However, division crowns are NEVER won in March and April, as there are far too many games left to be played in the regular season.

So, for the Toronto Blue Jays (16-18), there is still plenty of time, and the Jays are already receiving early predictions about making a comeback. Toronto is seven games back of the Yankees in the AL East, and a recent Bold Prediction by BR’s Zachary Rymer features the Blue Jays being in first place come the end of May.

Blue Jays Predicted to Pass Yankees By May’s End

Rymer believes that the Toronto Blue Jays will put together a stellar month and make up seven games in the standings by June 1:

“This is, however, an undeniably good time to buy stock in the Blue Jays. They’re 9-5 in their last 14 games, and that’s with a solid average of 5.0 runs per game which has a lot to do with the rise of Kazuma Okamoto. The team has also been getting healthier, as Trey Yesavage is already back and Alejandro Kirk, Addison Barger and more should follow in May. As for those Yankees, it’s been excellent pitching that has sustained them in the face of hit-or-miss offensive performances.”

The MLB writer does make some good points. It’s fair to point out that the Toronto Blue Jays should be welcoming back some reinforcements this month, like Kirk and Barger, which will help the offense get back on track. Still, I don’t know, the Yankees look pretty good through the first 30-35 games this season, and their starting rotation will only get better with the additions of Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon.

Perhaps the Blue Jays will catch fire in May, and the Tampa Bay Rays will slow down, but the Yankees? Being outgained by seven games by the Blue Jays?

Yankees fans likely believe that this is their year after such a hot start, but it’s also fair to point out that the Blue Jays are the reigning division champs and proved last year that they know how to win in the months of July-September, where games are truly maximized.
