The St. Louis Cardinals have made several offseason trades, and there’s no telling who else might be on the move during their fire sale. Despite not making many moves in recent weeks, the Toronto Blue Jays have still had one of the better offseasons in MLB. Although Toronto could not retain Bo Bichette, they’ve added the likes of Dylan Cease, Cody Ponce, Tyler Rogers, and Kazuma Okamoto.
Toronto is not being linked to Cardinals’ reliever, JoJo Romero, who is one of a few players left that is thought to be traded ahead of the 2026 season. Romero, 29, is fresh off his best season as a reliever, boasting a 2.07 ERA over 61 innings in 2025.

Blue Jays Being Linked to JoJo Romero
The Blue Jays already have a strong bullpen group, with names like Louis Varland, Rogers, Jeff Hoffman, and Yimi Garcia.
However, Toronto could still use another left-handed reliever to help anchor down games in the 8th and 9th innings. JoJo Romero recorded 8 saves in ’25, so he has some closing experience.
Bleacher Report’s Tim Kelly recently came out with a piece detailing ‘realistic MLB trades’ before spring training fully gets underway, and one of the deals the MLB writer predicts is the Blue Jays landing Romero:
GettySt. Louis Cardinals pitcher JoJo Romero
“In his first offseason as president of baseball operations for the Cardinals, Chaim Bloom has shown a willingness to move just about anyone as he rebuilds the organization in his image. So after already dealing Sonny Gray, Willson Contreras and Brendan Donovan this offseason, there’s no reason to think Bloom would stop if the right offer was made for JoJo Romero.”
JoJo Romero is also a fairly cheap option, as he’s set to make just over $4 million in 2026.

Should the Blue Jays Make this Trade?
Pulling off a trade like this deal would likely cost the Blue Jays a prospect or two, but it’s important to note that Romero is entering a contract year, so if Toronto does have to give up prospects, they need to be cautious or have a plan about either extending Romero or letting him play out the 2026 season before making that contract decision.
JoJo Romero has posted a sub-4.00 ERA in each of the past four seasons, all with the St. Louis Cardinals.
He’s appeared in 65 games in each of the last two seasons, as that is a big reason why he’s emerged as a top trade candidate across MLB.
As spring training approaches, the MLB trade market is fascinating. It’s one of the best and most direct ways to add an impact player during this time of year.
