Blue Jays Predicted to Land Cardinals Star Reliever in Big Trade

The Toronto Blue Jays will undoubtedly be a team to watch very closely during the 2026 season. After losing in the World Series to the Los Angeles Dodgers in extra innings during Game 7, the Blue Jays are certainly entering the 2026 campaign as a team on a mission. The Blue Jays will be looking for redemption by winning it all in 2026.

In response to losing the World Series, the Blue Jays had a busy offseason. They most notably signed star pitcher Dylan Cease to a seven-year, $210 million contract in free agency. They also added several other players, like Kazuma Okamoto, Tyler Rodgers, Cody Ponce, Jesus Sanchez, and Chase Lee.

However, the Blue Jays also had some notable departures this offseason. Star infielder Bo Bichette is undoubtedly their biggest loss, as he signed a three-year, $126 million contract with the New York Mets in free agency. Other players who the Blue Jays lost this offseason include Chris Bassitt (Baltimore Orioles) and Seranthony Dominguez (Chicago White Sox).

With this, there is no question that the Blue Jays are entering this season with a different-looking roster. While this is the case, the Blue Jays are still viewed as one of the top teams in the league this campaign and should be looking to continue to improve their roster because of it.

Due to this, the Blue Jays are now being linked to a notable trade candidate on the St. Louis Cardinals.

Blue Jays Predicted to Trade for Cardinals’ JoJo Romero

In a recent article for Bleacher Report, Kerry Miller took a look at a handful of MLB top trade candidates will end up getting moved to this season. Among the players who Miller discussed was St. Louis Cardinals reliever JoJo Romero, which is understandable when noting that he has been a popular name in the rumor mill.

When it came to Romero, Miller predicted that the Blue Jays will end up being the team that lands the star reliever this season.

“As far as a landing spot goes, throw a dart at a projected contender, as seemingly every postseason-bound team is looking to shore up its bullpen over the summer. Toronto looks like a better fit than most, though, as not only could the Blue Jays use another experienced southpaw reliever,” Miller said about Romero.

With the Blue Jays in need of another impactful relief pitcher, it makes sense that they are being viewed as a potential trade destination for Romero. There is no question that he would be an excellent addition to their roster, as he would give their bullpen a much-needed boost if acquired.

Blue Jays Will Have Competition to Land Romero

With teams always on the hunt for bullpen help, Romero should generate interest from other teams besides Toronto. A few teams that could make sense as suitors for Romero this campaign include the Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees, and Baltimore Orioles.

Yet, with the Blue Jays needing another reliever, they should consider making a major push for Romero. In 65 games last season for the Cardinals, he had a 4-6 record, a 2.07 ERA, and 55 strikeouts.
