Blue Jays Drop Game against ChiSox on Horrendous Error

The Toronto Blue Jays’ road woes continued on Saturday. The Jays dropped a disappointing 6-3 decision to the Chicago White Sox. Losing the game was bad enough. But the way the team ultimately lost was the worst part of all.

With the game 4-3 for Chicago in the bottom of the eighth inning, the Sox had runners on first and second and two outs. A botched play ended up becoming the death knell for Toronto.

The ground ball should have been the third out. Ernie Clement fielded the ball, but had no play. Fortunately for the Blue Jays, they caught the lead runner in a rundown between third and home.

What should have been the inning-ending out led to Jays’ catcher Tyler Heineman throwing the ball into left field. That allowed the White Sox to bring home two runs to make the game 6-3.

The inning eventually ended on the play, but the two runs had already scored. The Jays went down quietly in the bottom of the ninth. Former Blue Jays reliever Seranthony Dominguez pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for the save.

While there is an argument for the Jays’ offense not picking up the slack, it’s defensive plays like that that can quickly erode any momentum in a game.

The Blue Jays just cannot continue playing like this if they are to return to the World Series in 2026.

Blue Jays Quickly Falling Behind in AL East

The Blue Jays are now 4-4 on the season. They’re already 2.5 games behind the New York Yankees, who lead the division with a 6-1 mark.

What’s even more baffling is the sudden uninspired play from the Blue Jays. After sweeping their first series of the season, they dropped two of three against the Colorado Rockies. The Jays have lost the first two of their three-game set against the White Sox.

While the Jays will be looking to salvage the final game of the series, the club has to get back on track fast.

After Sunday’s game, the Jays will head back home to take on the Los Angeles Dodgers in a World Series rematch at Rogers Center.

The Dodgers, for their part, are 6-2 to start their season and already have a three-game lead over the Arizona Diamondbacks in the NL West.

It might seem implausible to state that the next series is a must-win for the Blue Jays at this point in this season. But it is.

Jays’ Offense Needs to Get Going

The Blue Jays need to get their offense going. The Jays are 15th in the Majors with 31 runs scored. While they’re tied for sixth with nine home runs thus far, the run support hasn’t been enough for the pitching staff.

The Jays’ staff is 12th in the Majors with a 3.65 ERA. That’s not bad, but it will need more run support. But there’s another thing the Blue Jays will need to improve. The Jays already have five errors this season.

That’s not going to cut it, particularly when costly mistakes like Saturday’s mess lead to losses. There’s still time to turn things around, but the Jays won’t have the luxury of time with the Yankees running away with the division.
