According to many reports, Blue Jays’ All-Star catcher Alejandro Kirk is heading to the Injured List with a left thumb fracture.
Kirk had been removed from Friday’s game against the Chicago White Sox in the 10th inning after injuring his thumb on a foul tip. In a brutal sequence of events, Kirk was removed from the game, and then immediately, new catcher Tyler Heinemann was tested, but he threw a ball up the line to allow the White Sox to score the game-tying run, and then one batter later, Chicago walked the Blue Jays off.
Matthew Singer, writer for Heavy on Sports, hit the Alejandro Kirk news as it was reported.

Alejandro Kirk Yet Another Blue Jay to Head to the Injured List
The Blue Jays, after making a deep playoff run in 2025, have been dealt tough injury news to start the 2026 season. Four of their starters (Cody Ponce, Jose Berrios, Shane Bieber, and Trey Yesavage) have all started the season on the Injured List.
The Alejandro Kirk injury news hurts because of his impact in the Blue Jays lineup, and the possible lingering effect that a thumb fracture can have on a catcher.
For the starting pitchers, Yesavage, Berrios, and Bieber have all received positive updates on their respective injuries.
The defending AL Pennant winners are being tested to start the season.
