Blue Jays Add 75-RBI Bat in New Trade As Shane Bieber Update Emerges

The Toronto Blue Jays continue to be one of the busiest teams in the MLB. They were one of the busiest in the offseason, adding the likes of Dylan Cease, Cody Ponce, Tyler Rogers, and Kazuma Okamoto. Now, they have made a deal with the Chicago White Sox for Lenyn Sosa. Jordan Rich went to Chicago in the deal.

Here is what you need to know about the trade, what the Blue Jays gave up, what they received, and an update on Shane Bieber.

Toronto Blue Jays Acquire Lenyn Sosa

On social media, the Blue Jays shared that they had made a trade with the White Sox.

“OFFICIAL: We’ve acquired INF Lenyn Sosa from the White Sox in exchange for Minor League OF Jordan Rich and a player to be named later or cash considerations,” the post began. “To make room, RHP Shane Bieber has been transferred to the 60-day IL.”

So who is Lenyn Sosa? Sosa is a 5-foot-11, 210 lb, 26-year-old second baseman.

The 2025 season was the best of Sosa’s young career. In 140 games, he recorded 22 home runs, 75 RBIs, 137 hits, 20 doubles, and one triple. Additionally, he recorded an impressive .434 slugging percentage.

At the point of this writing, Sosa has played in 12 games during the 2026 season. He has three RBIs, three triples, seven hits, and two runs.

Following the 2026 season, Sosa will be arbitration-eligible. Sosa is earning $803,550 for this year.

Scouting Report on Lenyn Sosa

The White Sox originally signed Sosa for $325,000 in 2016. He was an international free agent out of Venezuela.

Back in 2022, when Sosa was still considered a prospect, this was the scouting report on him.

“A right-handed hitter, Sosa owns some of the best hand-eye coordination and bat-to-ball skills in the system,” the report begins. “He began to reach his offensive potential this year by making better swing decisions, and while he still doesn’t walk much, he’s not getting himself out by making weak contact.”

“He has the bat speed and projectable strength to deliver 15-20 homers per season if he can maintain a decently selective approach.”

What Did the Blue Jays Give Up?

In exchange for Sosa, the Blue Jays traded away Jordan Rich and cash/player considerations at a later date.

Rich is an 18-year-old outfielder prospect. The young prospect has yet to play minor league baseball.

The Blue Jays drafted Rich in 2025. One scouting report reveals that he has good power and is quick on the bases.

“Jordan Rich was a dual threat in high school, launching seven home runs and swiping 38 bags his senior year,” the scouting report says. “That type of power and speed combination has been largely lacking from a Toronto Blue Jays system, and more importantly from their outfield prospects.”

That’s not a bad price to pay for a batter who could potentially slot in with the Blue Jays immediately.

Shane Bieber Update

Lost in the shuffle of this trade is the Shane Bieber move attached to it.

He has been moved from 15-day IL to 60-day IL. This gives fans an idea of how far away Bieber is from contributing to the big club.

Luckily, Trey Yesavage and Jose Berrios will be back before then. They will give the rotation a much-needed boost when that happens.
