Bills Reportedly In Talks With 12-Year Veteran Playmaker to Please Josh Allen

The Buffalo Bills are set to bring in several new players to their roster this week as the NFL Draft kicks off on Thursday.

Buffalo’s main focus is on bringing in enough young players who can contribute both this season and in the years to come. However, just because the Bills have turned all their attention to the draft doesn’t mean they shouldn’t also look to add more veteran players before training camp kicks off.

The Bills might be looking to bolster their roster by adding veteran players, particularly on offense. Given their need for depth on defense, they could focus on using draft picks to strengthen that side of the ball while also signing a few free agents to boost their offensive lineup.

Buffalo may consider adding another veteran wide receiver, and bringing back a former player remains a possibility.

Bills Could Look to Bring Back Brandin Cooks

ESPN’s Bills reporter Alaina Getzenberg mentioned on Monday that the Bills are still in contact with wide receiver Brandin Cooks.

“The Bills remain in touch with veteran receiver Brandin Cooks, who spent the end of last season with the team,” Getzenberg wrote.

Cooks played in five games with the Bills last season after being released by the New Orleans Saints, where he appeared in ten games. The 32-year-old wide receiver recorded five receptions for 114 yards and became a reliable target for Josh Allen during the playoffs.

Allen appeared quite pleased when the Bills brought Cooks on board last season and praised the veteran playmaker highly.

“He’s been around the league for a long time, The way that he carries himself, the way that he is in meetings,” said Bills’quaterback Allen, with preparations for the Pittsburgh Steelers underway in Orchard Park, via Bills ON SI’s Ralph Ventre “Already, it’s very apparent that he’s a true professional to come out here and practice the way that he did it speaks a lot about who he is as a person, as a player.”

Cooks Could Come in to Play With DJ Moore

If the Bills decide to re-sign Cooks, he could serve as a training camp participant and compete for a roster spot. There’s nothing wrong with Buffalo bringing him in to assess what he has left in the tank, and if he doesn’t have anything to offer, they can always cut him after training camp.

The Bills need to ensure they have enough veterans on their roster to support them through the playoffs, and this is likely one reason why Buffalo signed Cooks last season, since he has 12 years of NFL experience.

Buffalo also acquired Chicago Bears wide receiver DJ Moore during the offseason, adding another proven veteran to its roster.

A combination of Moore and Cooks could be something that Allen can depend on throughout the season, allowing the Bills to draft a wide receiver who can learn from these two veteran players.

It will be interesting to see whether the Bills bring Cooks back for another season and who else they add this week in the draft to help them compete for a Super Bowl title.
