The Bills have extended their season by at least another week after securing a 27-24 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. While Buffalo is gearing up for yet another postseason appearance, it’s never too early to start thinking about potential additions to the roster for next season.
Bills Named Fit For A.J. Brown
As long as Josh Allen is the quarterback in Buffalo, players around the league will want to play with him, especially wide receivers.
The Bills should consider bringing in a standout wide receiver this offseason, and according to Gary Davenport from Bleacher Report, A.J. Brown of the Philadelphia Eagles could be an excellent match for their needs.
Teams looking to trade for A.J. Brown are going to need one thing above all others. It’s not necessarily draft capital — Brown is going to cost what he costs, and anything short of a first-rounder would likely spur the Eagles to shop him elsewhere,” Davenport wrote on Sunday. “Not salary cap space — teams show year after year that the cap is as much myth as reality. It’s appeal to Brown himself. The 28-year-old may not have a no-trade clause, but given his history teams aren’t going to want to trade for Brown unless he wants to be there.
And why wouldn’t Brown want to play with Josh Allen in Buffalo? The Bills advanced to the Divisional Round with a win in Jacksonville on Sunday, but if the team once again comes up short of the Super Bowl, a lack of talent at wide receiver will be pointed to as one of the biggest reasons why. Many will complain that Josh Allen’s prime is being wasted by the lack of a true go-to wideout.”
Brown has dedicated the past four seasons to the Eagles, where he played a crucial role in their Super Bowl victory last season. However, Brown seemed frustrated most of the season with his role in the offense. He recorded just 78 receptions for 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns over the course of 15 games this season. If the Eagles are looking to move Brown, the Bills should be all over him.
Buffalo Has to Find New No. 1 WR
Buffalo hasn’t had a true No. 1 wide receiver since Stefon Diggs was there from 2020 to 2023, and the offense has struggled sometimes without a go-to guy.
Brown signed a three-year, $96 million contract extension in April 2024, securing his place with until 2029.
If the Bills are looking to trade for Brown, they will likely have to outbid several of their AFC rivals, including one from their own division, the Patriots.
There has been speculation that New England could be a viable option for Brown, especially since he played under head coach Mike Vrabel for three seasons with the Tennessee Titans.
It will be interesting to see how the Bills approach the receiver position this offseason, whether they decide to trade for a veteran or even draft one with their first-round pick.
