Bills GM Brandon Beane Weighs In on Where a Draft-Day Trade Could Stand

Buffalo Bills general manager and president of football operations Brandon Beane spoke to the media on Monday, just three days before the first round of the NFL Draft kicks off on Thursday night. He discussed what he might do with the 26th overall pick.

The 26th pick offers the Bills a great opportunity to trade back. Teams sitting in the early second round might be looking to move up into the latter part of the first round to secure a quarterback. Buffalo could be an attractive option for these organizations aiming to make a trade.

Beane Spoke on a Possible Draft Day Trade

However, the Bills might also consider trading up into the first round of the draft, and Beane discussed the possibility.

“It’s harder to go up, but I think with us you’d never say never,” Beane said.

The Bills should seriously consider every avenue for trading up, as they are just a few players away from winning a Super Bowl. If they can land a high-impact player in the middle of the first round who can contribute immediately, it could be worth making the effort to move up.

This year’s draft class appears considerably less impressive compared to previous years in terms of elite talent.

Beane also mentioned at his press conference that the Bills have assigned fewer players with first-round grades in this draft year than in previous years.

“Bills president of football operations and general manager Brandon Beane said that they are in the lower end in the number of players they’ve assigned first-round grades for the draft this year,” via ESPN’s Alaina Getzenberg wrote on X.

NFL Facing Criticism Over Bills-Broncos Playoff Decision

If Beane truly believes that there aren’t many players left who could be valuable picks at the end of the first round, then trading up should definitely be considered. The main drawback for the Bills in pursuing a trade-up is that they don’t possess their second-round pick. Buffalo dealt their 2026 second-round selection to the Chicago Bears this offseason in exchange for DJ Moore, which could have been an asset for the Bills to move up into possibly the top 15, along with the 26th pick.

Could The Bills Make a Trade With The Cowboys

If the Bills are considering moving up from the 26th pick, it might be worth reaching out to the Dallas Cowboys, who hold two selections: No. 12 and No. 20.

If the Cowboys select a player with the No. 12 pick and decide to keep it, they might look to trade the 20th pick to collect more draft picks later in the process.

The Bills may be considering adding another receiver with their first-round pick, and having the No. 20 spot could be an excellent opportunity to do so. The Pittsburgh Steelers hold the No. 21 pick, and the Cleveland Browns have the No. 24 pick—both teams that might also be looking to grab a receiver in those positions.

If the Bills move ahead of the Steelers and Browns, landing at pick No. 20, they could select a wide receiver that those teams were eyeing.
