After firing general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah earlier this year, longtime Minnesota Vikings executive Rob Brzezinski has been filling the void. Brzezinski will hold the interim title through this yearâs NFL Draft, but whether or not he can remove that interim tag is up in the air.
Minnesotaâs ownership will make a final determination on the open position after the draft, but former Viking linebacker and current KFAN reporter Ben Leber has his own ideas on who should get the job.Â
âMy money is on Rob to be the next GM,â wrote Leber on X.Â
Ben Leber Predicts The Vikings Remain With Interim GM Rob Brzezinski
Leber has worked very closely with the Vikings for years, hosting Twin Cities Live and working as a sideline reporter during games. Itâs reasonable to assume he has some insight on the process, and Leber seems confident that Minnesota will retain Brzezinski as the GM moving forward. And while, the team has kept their plans close to the vest, Leber isn’t the first to predict that Minnesota will simply move forward with their longtime executive.
Brzezinski has been with the Vikings since 1999, and has held various roles up to his most recent promotion. He has stayed with the team through multiple general managers, head coaches and owners. A long respected voice within the front office, heâll now get a chance to interview for the GM role with Aprilâs draft.Â
The Vikings have already been rumored to be looking at other candidates like former Minnesota executive and current Denver Broncos general manager George Paton, but Brzezinski has strong support from many prominent voices in the building. Leber is now the latest in the media to predict that Minnesota will opt for Brzezinski over an external candidate.Â
How Could the Vikings Address Their Needs in the 2026 NFL Draft?
A successful draft, or at least the appearance of one, would go a long way in helping Brzezinskiâs case for keeping the job long-term. Minnesota has several needs to address, and will need to find multiple starters in the first few rounds. After years of poor drafts from Adofo-Mensah, Brzezinski will need to show he can buck the trend.Â
The Vikings have been regarded as the top landing spot for Oregon safety Dillon Thieneman with the No. 18 pick as a potential Harrison Smith replacement.Â
âWord is the front office views him as a seamless replacement for veteran Harrison Smith,â ESPN draft analyst Matt Miller wrote. âThe Vikings must hit at a higher rate on Day 2 picks, and with that in mind Iâve heard the team will target players with higher college production over potential or traits.â
Brzezinski may opt to go with a best player available approach, however, and he may land a falling star instead of filling a need at No. 18. The Vikings also will need to find key contributors at defensive tackle, center, running back and receiver. Still, his chances to retain his title could come down to how ownership views the success, or failure, of this draft.Â
