Bears’ Sunday practice delayed by lightning near Halas Hall, fans sent home

The Bears will be late getting on the field Sunday and few will be watching when they do.

As players were loosening up for a 12:30 p.m. practice, alarms went off for lightning in the area and they were called back to the building. Shortly after, the team dismissed fans and decided the practice will be closed to the public.

The Bears have mostly avoided weather-related issues in the first few weeks of training camp. One other practice was closed to fans at the last minute, but the team still was able to get its full session in on time and outside.

The team has not said what time practice will begin.

After this, the Bears are holding their “Varsity Bears” walk-through Monday morning at nearby Stevenson High School, then have an off day before a stretch of practices leading up their preseason opener Sunday against the Browns at Soldier Field.
