Bears sign four players, announce WR Squirrel White’s retirement

The Bears signed receivers Scotty Miller and Kyron Hudson and linebackers Wayne Matthews II and Jon Rhattigan on Monday, two days after the conclusion of their rookie minicamp.

Rookie Squirrel White retired just four days after the Florida State receiver signed with the Bears as an undrafted free agent. He left practice early Saturday.

Miller, from Barrington, and Rhattigan, from Naperville, were veteran tryout players at the two-day minicamp. Miller won a Super Bowl with the 2020 Buccaneers and spent the last two seasons with the Steelers. Rhattigan spent parts of last season with both the Steelers and Raiders. He graduated from Army in 2020.

Hudson played alongside Bears quarterback Caleb Williams at USC and played his last college season at Penn State in 2025. From 2022-23, with Williams playing quarterback, he caught 32 passes for 341 yards. Matthews — who, like Hudson, also tried out at the camp — finished second on his Michigan State team in tackles last season.

When the NFL announced Monday the Giants will host the Cowboys in the first 2026 “Sunday Night Football” game, it eliminated two candidates to face the Seahawks in the second-ever Wednesday night season opener Sept. 9.

Miller, who backed up Caleb Williams at USC, is the fourth-string quarterback and likely headed for the practice squad if he impresses in training camp. But that could be the first step toward sustaining a career.
