Bears set start of training camp, joint practices with Bengals, Titans

The Bears will report for training camp July 28 and begin practice the next day, the team announced Monday. They also have confirmed joint practices with the Bengals and Titans in August.

Teams’ reporting dates are tied to their season opener and whether they’re playing in the Hall of Fame Game in the preseason, and the Bears have a fairly conventional schedule this season. Their first preseason game is Aug. 15 at home against the Browns, and their Week 1 game is Sept. 13 at the Panthers.

Quarterbacks and rookies will arrive at least a few days ahead of the rest of the team.

The Bears will play a preseason game at the Bengals on Aug. 22 and at the Titans on Aug. 29 — all of their preseason games are on Saturdays — and will do one practice with each of those teams two days before the game. Teams often emphasize those joint practices over the actual preseason games, though coach Ben Johnson didn’t sit starters in those scenarios last season after joint practices with the Dolphins and Bills.

All joint practices are open to the public. The Bears plan to release their full training camp schedule, including open practices at Halas Hall, this week.
