Bears Receive Encouraging Trade Update on Giants Star Pass Rusher

The Chicago Bears may have just received an encouraging update in their search for pass rush help.

According to SNY’s Connor Hughes, the New York Giants are listening to trade offers for edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux, and there is growing belief around the league that a deal could eventually happen.

“Kayvon Thibodeaux, per sources, is a player the Giants are listening to offers on and the belief from teams here at the combine is that he will eventually get dealt,” Hughes posted from the NFL Scouting Combine Thursday morning.

Hughes made it clear the same does not apply to defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence.

“I do not get the same sentiment on Dexter Lawrence. This staff loves him and wants him.”

That distinction is important. It signals that while Lawrence remains a foundational piece in New York, Thibodeaux may be available for the right price.

For a Bears team that struggled to consistently pressure quarterbacks last season, adding pass rush help has to be the No. 1 priority this offseason. That kind of update should absolutely have Ryan Poles paying attention.

League Belief Growing That Bears Could Land Kayvon Thibodeaux

Hughes’ wording stood out because it went beyond simple due diligence. Teams always take calls at the combine, but the belief from executives around the league that Thibodeaux “will eventually get dealt” suggests real momentum that he will not be in New York in 2026.

At age 25, Thibodeaux is entering the fifth year of his rookie contract after the Giants exercised his option.

He is scheduled to make roughly $14 million in 2026. That is a manageable number for a former top five pick who has already produced 23.5 career sacks, including an 11.5 sack breakout season in 2023.

Injuries have limited him over the past two seasons, and the Giants’ addition of Brian Burns along with the emergence of Abdul Carter has created a surplus on the edge.

With only two starting spots available, Thibodeaux appears to be the most logical trade chip for the Giants.

Why the Fit Makes Sense for the Bears

From Chicago’s perspective, the timing makes sense.

The Bears finished near the bottom of the league in pass rush win rate. They also were tied for the seventh-fewest sacks last season.

Even with flashes from their young defense, consistent pressure was a glaring weakness.

Thibodeaux would immediately become one of the most talented edge defenders on the Bears’ roster.

At 6 foot 5 and 258 pounds, he fits the mold of the type of edge defender Dennis Allen wants in his defense.

More importantly, he is still just 25 years old and entering what should be his prime.

The Bears have cap flexibility and draft capital to make a move without mortgaging the future. If the Giants are truly motivated sellers, a Day 2 pick could be enough to start serious conversations.

But it reinforces what people around the league are starting to believe: the Giants are willing to listen on Thibodeaux.

If that’s the case, Ryan Poles and the Bears should pick up the phone.
