Bay Area News Group girls athlete of the week: Megan Haniger, Archbishop Mitty soccer

Archbishop Mitty soccer player Megan Haniger is the Bay Area News Group’s girls athlete of the week for Feb. 26 to March 2.

In online voting that ended at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Haniger had 30.37% to finish ahead of Notre Dame-San Jose softball player Avery Provenzano, who was second at 23.80%.

Congratulations to all the candidates for this week’s recognition.

Haniger, a senior, led the Archbishop Mitty back line as the Monarchs held Del Oro scoreless in regulation and overtime of the NorCal Division I title game. Mitty beat its opponent 5-3 in penalty kicks. Haniger was the MVP of the game.
