Baltimore Orioles Have Bad Injury News on All-Star Infielder

The Baltimore Orioles have had a decent start to the 2026 season. The Orioles currently have a 3-2 record on the season and are third in the American League East standings. However, they have been cooling off as of late, as they lost each of their last two games to the Texas Rangers. This was after they swept the Minnesota Twins to kick off the season.

The Orioles have also been hit with injury trouble to start the season. Starting pitcher Zach Eflin had to leave his first appearance of the season after just 3.2 innings pitched due to elbow discomfort.

However, the Orioles have also been without infielder Jordan Westburg to kick off the season due to a right elbow UCL sprain. When noting that Westburg is a key part of the Orioles’ roster, his absence has certainly been felt.

Now, the Orioles have provided an injury update on Westburg, and it is certainly far less than ideal news for the club.

Baltimore Orioles Transfer All-Star Infielder Jordan Westburg to 60-Day Injured List

On Wednesday, the Orioles announced that they have transferred Jordan Westburg to the 60-day injured list. This is undoubtedly a rough update, as this confirms that he will be out until at least late May.

Westburg is a player who the Orioles are certainly looking forward to seeing return to their lineup. This is because the 6-foot-1 infielder is a key part of their roster. In 85 games during this past season with the Orioles, he had 17 home runs, 41 RBIs, and a .265 batting average. This was after he had 18 home runs, 26 doubles, 63 RBIs, and a .264 batting average in 107 games during his All-Star 2024 campaign.

With numbers like these, there is no question that Westburg is a key part of the Orioles’ group. However, they will now need to continue to adjust to not having him until at least late May with this latest update from the Orioles.

Orioles Also Provide Injury Update on Starting Pitcher Zach Eflin

The Orioles also shared that Eflin was placed on the 15-day injured list due to right elbow discomfort. This was expected after Eflin left his first start of the season against the Rangers early.

The Orioles will now be hoping that Eflin will be able to return to the mound right after his stint on the 15-day injured list. The 6-foot-6 righty is a key part of the Orioles’ rotation, so it would be great if this injury does not keep him out of action for too long.

Eflin had a solid first start of the season before being forced to leave, as he allowed just one run and had seven strikeouts in 3.2 innings pitched. Once he returns to the mound, he will be looking to build off his solid first appearance of the year.

Eflin appeared in 14 games during this past season with the Orioles, where he had a 6-5 record and a 5.93 ERA. This was after he had a 5-2 record and a 2.60 ERA during the 2024 season with Baltimore.

Overall, the injury bug is biting the Orioles early on this season, and it will be intriguing to see how they respond.
