Bad Bunny Super Bowl Halftime Show Isn’t Star’s Only Sports Connection

As one of the best performers on the planet, there’s not a stage on which Bad Bunny doesn’t feel comfortable — from the Super Bowl halftime show to a WWE ring.

He might be the most popular performer in music right now, set to perform the Super Bowl LX halftime show. The 31-year-old should feel right at home in any arena, as evidenced by his brief foray into professional wrestling, a stint that peaked (so far) at WWE Backlash in 2023.

Reliving Bad Bunny’s 2023 WWE Match Ahead of Super Bowl Halftime Show

Bad Bunny has actually performed in WWE a handful of times at this point. None was bigger than his street fight with Damian Priest at the 2023 premium live event, Backlash. That event was especially meaningful as it took place in his home country of Puerto Rico.

His entrance, using his own song “Chambea,” sent the sold-out crowd in San Juan into an absolute frenzy.

“This was one of the loudest pops, and this place went insane for this guy,” POST Wrestling’s John Pollock said at the time in his podcast review of the show.  “This was incredible. This entrance was just incredible.”

He was just getting started, too. Bad Bunny and Priest went 25 minutes, by far the longest match of the night, and the music superstar earned the highest of praise for his in-ring efforts.

“The fact that he was willing to take himself out of his very busy touring schedule to train for this, to pull off a singles match that was 25 minutes in length, that is a gift,” Pollock’s podcast partner, Wai Ting, said on the same review podcast. “That is a gift to this company. … they were just incredibly lucky to be able to work this relationship together on a night where they were doing the show in Puerto Rico. … Boy did they deliver.”

Bad Bunny has built a lengthy WWE resume. In addition to the Backlash appearance, he has performed live on WWE television and has been involved in a few on-screen storyline segments. He wrestled (tagging with Priest) at WrestleMania 37, and he also made a surprise appearance in the men’s Royal Rumble match in 2022.

Will Bad Bunny Use Super Bowl As Springboard for Another WWE Run?

Typically, the Super Bowl halftime performer uses the gig as a way to launch themselves into an even higher level of fame, using it as springboard for a new album or tour. In Bad Bunny’s case, it might be a way for him to generate even more excitement around a WWE return.

F4WOnline’s Bryan Alvarez recently reported Bad Bunny is expected to make a return, and it’s worthwondering whether that could happen as early as this spring with an eye on a match at WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas.
