Following Thursday’s game, news came out that the Braves had signed Andrew McCutchen.
Bill Shanks wrote: “According to the transactions page, the Atlanta #Braves have signed 39-year-old OF/DH Andrew McCutchen to a minor league contract. McCutchen hit .192 in 83 plate appearances for the Texas Rangers this season before being released May 28.”
McCutchen was once among the best players in the MLB when he made five All-Star Games for the Pittsburgh Pirates from 2011-15.
He was also the 2013 National League MVP.

Following the Pirates, McCutchen had stops with the San Francisco Giants, New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies and Milwaukee Brewers.
He then returned to the Pirates from 2023-25 (before joining the Rangers).
Over 2,299 career games, McCutchen is batting .271 with 2,280 hits, 333 home runs, 1,157 RBIs, 1,298 runs and 220 stolen bases.

While McCutchen is far from his prime at 39, he is an intriguing addition to a Braves team that is looking to contend for the 2026 World Series title.
He has appeared in 13 MLB playoff games (and never reached the World Series).

Here’s what people were saying:
@mailmanwest: “Why?”
@99shawnb: “I kinda of like this move if Andrew McCutchen figures it out.”
@CraigJo36716327: “Carlos Santana 40 and McCutchen 39. Braves are cooked and well done. Dodgers will represent the NL in the World Series. Medicore spending and wanting to play it out costs you at the end. Bad contracts too.”
@thepmill: “AA will take the rest of the month off now”

The Braves have had a very tough stretch over the last few weeks.
That said, they still find themselves as the top team in the National League East with a 50-35 record in 85 games.
On Friday night, the Braves will remain at Truist Park to host Juan Soto and the New York Mets.
