Atlanta Braves Predicted to Trade for Angels’ $42 Million Slugger in Latest MLB Mock

The Atlanta Braves are on a roll right now and continue to emerge as one of the best teams in MLB. Despite losing their first series of the year against the Seattle Mariners, Los Bravos have a stranglehold on the National League East.

With their recent success will come expectations and aspirations, which means this could be a season Atlanta’s front office goes all in at the MLB trade deadline to polish out a World Series-caliber roster. Back in 2021, when the Braves won the Fall Classic, GM Alex Anthopoulos made a pivotal move in trading for eventual World Series MVP Jorge Soler. Could history repeat itself at this year’s deadline?

There’s reason to believe that the Los Angeles Angels, who are in last place in the American League West, may sell off their tradeable assets come July.

In a recent predictions piece by Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller, Jorge Soler is named the most likely player on the Angels to be traded this summer:

“With Mike Trout healthy and thriving while the Angels are dead-last in the MLB standings, you know exactly which trade rumor we’re hoping to discuss this summer. That’s a pipe dream, though, whereas Soler is a much more legitimate option. He was traded at both the 2021 and 2024 deadlines, and he’s hitting better this season than he did in the first few months of those campaigns. It’s merely a question of whether it’ll be Atlanta acquiring him for a third time.”

Jorge Soler is under a three-year, $42 million contract and is an impending free agent after this season ends. In 34 games this season, Jorge Soler has eight home runs, 28 RBI, and an OPS+ of 129. The Braves, if they need any help, could use another slugger to fill in at designated hitter.

In this MLB mock trade, the Atlanta Braves could offer the Los Angeles Angels a trade package of prospects Owen Murphy and Nacho Alvarez Jr. Murphy is a pitching prospect who recently got called up to Triple-A, but Atlanta’s rotation is pretty full at the moment.

With all their success and exceeding expectations to start the season, expect the Braves to be an aggressive team this summer in terms of trades.

It may be a bit too early to start thinking of blockbuster trades transpiring across MLB, but a name like Jorge Soler, given his contract status, stands out as a top trade candidate in the early cycle.
