At the Sweet 16 stage of NCAA March Madness tournament play, even minor injuries can have an outsized impact. However, Arizona is entering the round in a relatively strong position compared to earlier stretches of their regular season.

The biggest storyline for Arizona over the past month has been the status of freshman forward Koa Peat. He missed multiple games late in the regular season due to a lower leg injury that temporarily disrupted Arizona’s player rotation on the court and the team’s rebounding presence. At the time, his absence exposed some vulnerabilities for the Wildcats, particularly on the boards and in transition play.

The outlook has improved significant since then, though. Peat returned before the postseason ended and has since regained full form, reestablishing himself as one of the team’s most important contributors. His presence restores Arizona basketball’s physicality and versatility – two elements that are critical in a matchup against a tough Arkansas squad.

Reserve wing Dwayne Aristode dealt with illness-related absences during the same stretch that saw Peat removed from game play. While not a starter, Aristode provides valuable depth and perimeter shooting off the bench. His return gives head coach Tommy Lloyd more flexibility in managing rotations, especially in a high-intensity tournament environment as March Madness continues.

Arizona basketball team’s improved health could be a decisive factor as they attempt to break through the Sweet 16 barrier to advance to the Elite Eight round of the NCAA March Madness tournament, especially since the Sweet 16 has been a stage which has presented trouble for the Wildcats in recent years. With Peat back anchoring the frontcourt and Brayden Burries returned from illness as well, Arizona will have a strong lineup for their game against Arkansas.
