Anthony Volpe Breaks Silence on Yankees Fans Booing Him

Just a couple of short years ago, the New York Yankees were expecting shortstop Anthony Volpe to become a star at the Major League level.

Volpe was one of the top prospects in baseball. His presence on the big league roster was anticipated by fans. Unfortunately, the start to his professional career has not gone according to plan.

Now three years into being on the Major League roster with the Yankees, Volpe has struggled to live up to the hype. He has shown flashes of the superstar potential that he possesses, but consistency has been a real problem for him thus far.

With that being said, fans have started letting their frustration be heard. Volpe has been receiving boos. That isn’t what New York was hoping to see for its young infielder.

Keeping that in mind, Volpe has now issued a response to the fans who are booing him.

As shared by Rob Klapisch of NJ.com, Volpe revealed that he understands the fans being frustrated with him.

“I know people really care. I want them to react,” Volpe said. “Obviously, I want them to cheer for me, but for them not to do so say anything is not what I’d want, either.”

Not only did Volpe reveal that he understands and wants reaction from the fans, he also shared that he would be doing the same thing if he were in their shoes.

“With the booing, I know I’d be doing the same thing if I was in their shoes. I want them to know I’m doing everything I can to be the best player possible.”

Those words should be a bit comforting to fans who have become frustrated with Volpe’s play. Even though the start to his career hasn’t gone as hoped, Volpe is focused on turning things around.

What to Expect From Anthony Volpe in 2026

Last season with the Yankees, Volpe played in 153 games. He hit 19 home runs to go along with 72 RBI, 18 stolen bases, and a slash line of .212/.272/.391.

Throughout his three-year Major League career in New York, he has totaled 52 home runs, 192 RBI, 70 stolen bases, and a .222/.283/.379 slash line.

Volpe will miss part of the 2026 season due to injury. He is still recovering from surgery to repair a partially torn labrum in his left non-throwing shoulder.

RotoWire has revealed their projections for Volpe during the 2026 season. They believe that he will return to the Yankees on April 24 and will hit 12 home runs on the season to go along with 48 RBI, 16 stolen bases, and a .221 batting average.

Those projections won’t make New York fans very happy. However, the 24-year-old shortstop will have a chance to exceed those expectations and start turning things around.
