Anthony Edwards Reveals Valid Reason For Cursing At His Coach

Popular Minnesota Timberwolves superstar Anthony Edwards had a viral moment cursing at head coach Chris Finch after a clutch three-pointer to confuse fans. Edwards and Finch didn’t show any ill will towards each other, so it just felt like a heat of the moment reaction. However, the post-game interview for Minnesota’s win over the Los Angeles Clippers gave Edwards the chance to explain why.

Edwards said the following about yelling in Finch’s face after putting the game away:

“The play before, Finchy. He was like ‘pass the ball’, and I just told him, “You don’t want me to pass the ball, you want me to shoot it.”

Minnesota won a close competitive game on the road and overcame the Clippers battling hard without Kawhi Leonard. Edwards has been on a hot streak and is usually needed to have All-Star caliber performances for his team to win games.

Thursday night was no different with Edwards placed in the tough spot of making the biggest plays with the defense fully game planning for him. Edwards was excited after the game-clinching shot and yelled at Finch’s face out of pure emotion. Finch was more than fine with the controversial moment since it came from his team winning the game.

Why Finch Wanted Anthony Edwards To Pass

Minnesota and Los Angeles had a low scoring game with a 94-88 final score, so every possession mattered in the final minutes. Finch wanted Edwards to facilitate more since he was taking more shots with 24 field goal attempts on the night out of 83 total.

The Timberwolves offense operates based on how Edwards runs the offense and other players need him to set them up with passes. Two consecutive Western Conference Finals appearances have come from Edwards’ teammates benefiting from the defense often double teaming him.

Finch’s message was not wrong, but Edwards proved to have the correct thought process by hitting the shot that Minnesota badly needed. Superstars have a feel for the end of the game to make the right play based on their own skill set. Edwards has drawn comparisons to Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, so he clearly has the talent to take over games.

Anthony Edwards Must Carry Minnesota

The rest of the season will see Minnesota needing Edwards to hit big shots and make the right play late in games. Western Conference seeding is important for a close race, and the Timberwolves will realistically fall somewhere between third and sixth.

Julius Randle and Rudy Gobert are two former All-Stars on the roster, but neither of them is considered a superstar by any means. The recently acquired Ayo Dosunmu is still fitting into the offense and shows positive signs of improving the depth.

Edwards needs to be the superstar and hope that his teammates do enough in their limiting roles to win games. The only chance of Minnesota contending for an NBA Championship comes from Edwards having moments like last night. Finch will likely trade getting cursed out for a win led by Edwards’ play every single night.
