Anthony Edwards Injury Update: Timberwolves Get Good News On Return

Anthony Edwards has sat for all but two of the Minnesota Timberwolves‘ last 12 games with a knee injury that originally sidelined him in mid-March, and while he did come back for a brief stint, the NBA superstar remains out for the time being.

Edwards missed the Timberwolves’ last game against the Orlando Magic, which ended in a loss, as he was just one of a few key players listed on the team’s injury report on Wednesday.

However, while the franchise centerpiece still doesn’t have an exact return date from his knee injury, the latest update signals good news for a Timberwolves team that is now locked in to the sixth seed for the 2026 NBA Playoffs.

GettyNEW YORK, NEW YORK – NOVEMBER 05: Anthony Edwards #5 of the Minnesota Timberwolves warms up before the game against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden on November 05, 2025 in New York City.

Edwards is reportedly dealing with the same ‘runner’s knee’ injury that kept fellow superstar Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors out for two months. Like the three-point shooting specialist, there is no structural damage to his knee, but he has yet to put together a string of availability in nearly four weeks.

Still, according to team insider Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic, Minnesota and head coach Chris Finch are hopeful a return will come before the end of the regular season.

“The priority now is getting the team healthy and in a rhythm that has rarely been seen this season. To that end, Edwards, who has missed 10 of the last 12 games, could be nearing a return as well,” he wrote after the Timberwolves’ loss to the Magic. “He went through a pregame workout on Wednesday night, and Finch said the hope is Edwards can get a game or two under his belt before the regular season ends.”

“We’re hopeful, for sure,” Finch told him. “We’ve got to get him back and up to speed.”

While he didn’t play on Wednesday, the star was seen warming up before the game against Orlando, ‘a good sign’ for a return to come soon, Krawczynski reported.

In 60 games this season, Edwards is averaging 28.9 points, five rebounds, and 3.7 assists on 48.9% shooting, but has since been ruled out for end-of-season awards. The Timberwolves have gone 5-5 in the recent games he has missed.

Along with not having Edwards, Minnesota was without a few key contributors in their latest loss.

Mike Conley and Rudy Gobert were ruled out for rest, while Ayo Dosunmu sat with calf injury management, and Julius Randle with right hand soreness.

But as the Timberwolves have already clinched and been locked in to the sixth seed in the West, it was a sort of ‘load management’ type of night for the team up North.

However, while five key contributors were all absent on Wednesday, Minnesota did see the return of Jaden McDaniels, who had previously been out for six games with a knee injury.

“Six games is a lot for me,” he said after scoring 18 points in his return game. “It felt long. I think it was a gift and a curse. Get to rest a little bit and now use these last games to get my rhythm back and just find the flow back with the teammates.”

While getting Edwards back remains the most important aspect for the Timberwolves in the final two games of the regular season, keeping other key players healthy, and getting McDaniels back is good news for the team.

Minnesota is 47-33, and likely bound for a first-round playoff matchup against the Denver Nuggets.
