Anthony Edwards Faces Worst Week of His Life as Knee Injury and Legal Drama Collide

Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards is facing uncertainty on and off the court after exiting Game 4 against the Denver Nuggets. He suffered a left knee injury and is dealing with an ongoing legal dispute involving child support and jurisdiction.

Edwards was injured during the Timberwolves’ 112-96 win on Saturday, a result that gave Minnesota a 3-1 series lead. The All-Star guard suffered a hyperextension on a defensive play late in the first half. He will undergo further testing on Sunday. His availability moving forward remains unclear as the team prepares for Game 5.

The situation comes at a critical point in the playoffs. While Minnesota is one win away from advancing, Edwards’ status could shape both the remainder of the series and the team’s outlook beyond the first round.

Edwards’ injury occurred when he rotated to contest a shot and landed awkwardly, immediately grabbing his left knee. He stayed down before eventually leaving the floor, raising concern among teammates and staff.

Medical evaluations are ongoing, with multiple possible outcomes. Sports medicine experts have identified a range of scenarios. A minor sprain could result in a short absence, while a bone bruise may sideline him for several weeks. More severe outcomes, such as ligament damage involving the ACL or PCL, would likely end his postseason and extend into next season.

Sports medicine professional Deepak Chona shared his assessment on X, writing, “Even in the best case scenario of a sprain/bone bruise, he’s still likely missing at least the rest of this series. Fingers crossed for good news, although the video doesn’t give major optimism.”

NBA writer Dusty Garza outlined potential timelines: a minor sprain could take 1 to 7 days, a bone bruise 2 to 4 weeks, and ligament damage would be season-ending.

Despite the uncertainty, Minnesota responded strongly after Edwards exited. Jaden McDaniels said the team made a commitment during halftime to finish the game.

“I just told him we’re going to win for him and we’ll handle business,” McDaniels said, via Andrew Dukowitz. “I didn’t even ask him what happened or nothing, I just told him we were going to win the game.”

Head coach Chris Finch acknowledged the emotional impact of losing Edwards, along with Donte DiVincenzo, who exited early with an Achilles injury.

“Losing those two guys was really tough. Tough emotionally for the guys,” Finch said, via ESPN’s Anthony Slater. “We regrouped well… Just play after play after play, we really had a team effort, everybody chipped in.”

Minnesota now has a cushion with a 3-1 series lead, allowing time for further evaluation before determining Edwards’ status for the next round.

Anthony Edwards Legal Dispute Adds Off-Court Pressure

At the same time, Edwards is involved in an ongoing legal dispute involving child support and jurisdiction between California and Georgia.

According to court filings obtained by TMZ, Ayesha Howard is seeking to establish child support in California for her daughter, Aubri. Edwards has argued the case should be handled in Georgia, citing his primary ties there.

The dispute has included conflicting court decisions. A California judge ruled the state lacked jurisdiction, while a Georgia court sided with Edwards and ordered Howard to pay legal fees.

The case took a new turn when Alexandria Desroches, who also shares a child with Edwards, submitted a declaration supporting Howard’s position. In that filing, she stated that Edwards has been making voluntary monthly child support payments to her through wire transfers from a Beverly Hills bank account.

Howard is using that information to argue that Edwards maintains financial ties to California.

Edwards’ legal team has strongly pushed back. In court filings, his attorney described Howard’s actions as “meritless and harassing motions” and requested the case be sealed.

The attorney added, “I have never encountered a litigant who has so flagrantly and repeatedly abused the judicial process,” calling it “a campaign of harassment, obstruction and extortion that has made a mockery of the court systems in two states.”

Additional filings cited by Page Six state that Edwards believes Howard has used court proceedings to generate media attention and apply pressure for a settlement. The documents also reference alleged settlement demands, including financial compensation and public statements, which Edwards’ legal team rejected.

In her filings, Howard has argued that Edwards has “substantial and ongoing business and financial presence in the State of California,” citing financial accounts and business ties.

The Timberwolves now face a dual challenge. On the court, they are positioned to close out the series against Denver. Off the court, Edwards’ situation remains unresolved.

Minnesota’s ability to advance without Edwards in the short term provides some flexibility. However, his long-term availability remains a key factor in the team’s postseason outlook.

An official medical update is expected following further testing. Until then, both the Timberwolves and Edwards are left navigating uncertainty at a critical stage of the season.
