Annexation application to build giant Buc-ee’s travel center in Palmer Lake is withdrawn

Property owner Monument Ridge West LLC withdrew its annexation application from Palmer Lake, the town announced Wednesday, halting plans that could have cleared the way for the second Buc-ee’s travel center in Colorado.

The planned development along Interstate 25 in El Paso County had been highly controversial, facing opposition from some residents and community groups who feared increased traffic, strained infrastructure, impacts on the town’s water supply and other issues.

“The town followed the established state annexation process, including public notice and opportunities for community input. Residents are encouraged to stay informed by attending public meetings,” town officials said in a brief public notice posted on the municipal website Wednesday.
