Alabama QB Ty Simpson Gets Major Update on NFL Future

The Alabama Crimson Tide have quite a few players headed off to the 2026 NFL Draft, but none of them are more talked about than standout quarterback Ty Simpson.

While Simpson was only the starting quarterback for one season with the Crimson Tide, he is widely expected to be a first-round pick. However, there are questions about which team could take him and whether or not he could slide due to his lack of experience.

At one point during the 2025 college football season, Simpson was being talked about as a potential Heisman Trophy candidate. Unfortunately, his level of play fell off some late in the year, which knocked him out of contention for the coveted award.

After losing to the Indiana Hoosiers in the Rose Bowl, Simpson made the decision to enter the NFL Draft. Other programs tried to convince him to stay in college and transfer, with one offer being worth around $6.5 million. Simpson decided to pursue his dreams of playing professional football.

New Update Emerges About Ty Simpson’s Potential NFL Future

Who could decide that Simpson will be their next franchise quarterback? The Pittsburgh Steelers have started emerging as an early favorite to be that team.

As shared by Andrew Fillipponi of 937 The Fan in Pittsburgh, Steelers insider Nick Farabaugh has reported that the team is very interested in drafting Simpson.

“BREAKING: Excellent Steelers insider Nick Farabaugh says sources at the Senior Bowl are telling him the Steelers REALLY LIKE Alabama QB Ty Simpson. And that he’s on their draft radar,” Fillipponi wrote on X.

Pittsburgh would make a lot of sense for Simpson. Aaron Rodgers played the 2025 season on a one-year deal and his future with the Steelers is very much in question. Even if he does decide to return for the 2026 campaign, the franchise will need a long-term option behind him.

Will Howard was drafted in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Even with him on the roster, Pittsburgh could decide that it needs more quarterback competition.

Simpson may not end up being a target for the Steelers, but they have emerged as a very serious contender to be his first NFL landing spot.

Ty Simpson Put Together an Impressive 2025 Season for Alabama

Even though the season did not end as the Crimson Tide had hoped, Simpson still put together an impressive all-around year.

He completed 64.5 percent of his pass attempts for 3,567 yards, 28 touchdowns, and five interceptions. Simpson also ran for 93 yards and two more scores.

Those numbers give a lot of hope that he could develop into being an NFL starting quarterback.

Another area of Simpson’s game that was impressive is his leadership ability. He is an extremely positive person and carries himself well. During meetings with the media, Simpson always seemed to say the right things.

It’s too early to truly predict what is going to happen in the 2026 NFL Draft. Simpson seems likely to be a first round pick, but that isn’t a guarantee. Right now, Pittsburgh seems to be the top potential suitor for him.
