Alabama Legend Becomes Highest-Paid Non-QB in NFL History

Former Alabama Crimson Tide defensive standout Will Anderson Jr. has officially reached the top of the NFL mountain financially.

According to reports aggregated from Heavy and multiple national outlets, the Houston Texans have signed Anderson to a historic three-year, $150 million contract extension, including a staggering $134 million guaranteed.

The deal not only locks Anderson in as the face of Houston’s defense, but it also makes him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history in terms of average annual value.

The extension also reportedly includes a rare no-trade clause, signaling just how valuable Anderson has become to the franchise.

From Alabama Dominance to NFL Superstar

Before becoming one of the NFL’s most dominant defenders, Anderson built his reputation at Alabama as one of the most decorated defensive players in program history. From 2020 through 2022, Anderson tallied 34.5 sacks and 62 tackles for loss for the legendary Nick Saban.

In 2021, Anderson had one of the most impressive seasons for a defensive player in college football history, recording 17.5 sacks and 34.5 tackles for loss while finishing 5th in the Heisman Trophy voting.

Anderson has taken his elite disruptiveness to the NFL level and has quickly become one of the most feared defenders in the league. In 2023, he won the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award and has earned multiple Pro Bowl selections, along with securing First Team All-Pro honors in 2025.

Will Anderson’s Dominant 2025 Season Reset the Market

Anderson’s extension didn’t come out of nowhere either. It came through his elite production during the 2025 season, where he totaled 54 total tackles, 12 sacks, 20 tackles for loss, and 3 forced fumbles.

He also finished near the top of the league in pressures and pass-rush win rate, establishing himself as one of the most disruptive defensive players in football.

With his success and extension, Anderson is further proof that Alabama is one of the best programs at producing elite NFL talent. The Houston Texans‘ defense now has its defensive future locked up for the next several seasons.
