Alabama Football Enters Recruiting Battle for In-State Linebacker

Kalen DeBoer and the Alabama Crimson Tide have officially entered the recruitment of one of the top defensive prospects in the state, extending an offer to four-star linebacker Ellis McGaskin on Tuesday morning, according to Andrew Bone of BamaOnline.

The 6-foot, 205-pound standout from Williamson High School in Mobile received the news directly from Alabama defensive line coach Freddie Roach, who serves as his primary area recruiter.

While Alabama may be arriving slightly later than some programs, its presence in McGaskin’s recruitment is far from new.

Alabama Has an Established Relationship with McGaskin

Despite the timing of the offer, the Crimson Tide has been monitoring McGaskin closely for over a year. He has made multiple trips to Bryant-Denny Stadium, attending games throughout the fall and building familiarity with the program.

That foundation could prove valuable as Alabama works to gain ground against several SEC and national powers already pushing hard.

McGaskin himself indicated that while no official visit to Tuscaloosa is currently locked in, a return trip is highly likely in the near future.

Official Visits Set for Ellis McGaskin

Per Bone’s report, McGaskin has already lined up a busy official visit schedule with several top programs:

He had previously scheduled a visit with the Texas A&M Aggies, but replaced that trip following a recent visit to Athens.

Adding another layer to his recruitment, McGaskin was once committed to Notre Dame Fighting Irish football before reopening his recruitment in January.

Alabama Continues to Show Importance of In-State Talent

With this offer, Alabama continues to prioritize top in-state talent as it builds out its future defensive classes. McGaskin now joins a growing list of high-profile targets on the Tide’s recruiting board.

The next key step will be getting him back on campus for an official visit, because in a recruitment this competitive, face-to-face time in Tuscaloosa could make all the difference.
