Alabama Basketball Hit With Unexpected Transfer Portal News

Nate Oats and the Alabama Crimson Tide men’s basketball team have been hit with their first transfer portal departure of the offseason.

Forward Taylor Bol Bowen is reportedly planning to enter the transfer portal, according to On3’s Joe Tipton. The 6-foot-10 junior spent just one season in Tuscaloosa after transferring in from Florida State Seminoles men’s basketball.

Bol Bowen Showed Promise But Plagued With Injuries

Bol Bowen’s time at Alabama showed flashes of real potential, especially early in the season. He opened the year as a starter and was a consistent contributor during non-conference play, even averaging double-digit points during that stretch.

However, his momentum was derailed once SEC play began.

A series of injuries, including issues with his hand, knee, and leg, significantly impacted his availability and effectiveness. He missed six games and was limited to 10 minutes or fewer in multiple conference matchups.

Despite those setbacks, Bol Bowen showed toughness by playing through pain when available.

Bol Bowen Showed Up Early in March Madness

Even with the up and down season, Bol Bowen stepped up for Alabama in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, recording 15 points against Hofstra to help propel Alabama to a 90-70 win.

That success was short-lived, with Bol Bowen scoring just 8 points in the next two rounds of the tournament.

Taylor Bol Bowen’s Alabama Stats

In his only season with Alabama, Bol Bowen averaged 6.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, and shot 30.2% from three.

While those numbers don’t fully reflect his early-season impact, they do highlight how injuries disrupted what could have been a breakout campaign

What This Means For Alabama Basketball

Bol Bowen is the first of what is likely to be a handful of transfer portal departures for Coach Oats and the Crimson Tide.

Losing Bol Bowen will leave Oats looking for more depth and experience in the front court, but also the opportunity to fill that need with a more impactful player from the portal.
