Alabama Among Top Teams For Elite 2027 DB Recruit

Even with most of the focus currently on A-Day, Kalen DeBoer and the Alabama Crimson Tide continue to make strides on the recruiting trail.

On Friday afternoon, Hayes Fawcett of On3 reported that the Crimson Tide made the final four for elite 2027 recruit Hayden Stepp.

Joining Alabama in Stepp’s top four schools are Oregon, Georgia, and California.

Hayden Stepp On the Verge of Five-Star Status

Stepp hails from Las Vegas, Nevada, and is ranked as a Top 30 Recruit in the 2027 Class, per Rivals Industry.

It is still fairly early in the recruiting process, and Rivals will not hand out all of their five-star rankings until closer to signing day, but as of now, Stepp is well on his way to earning that fifth star.

Hayden Stepp Has Prototypical Alabama DB Size

Under defensive coordinator Kane Wommack and defensive backs coach Mo Linguist, Alabama has had the reputation of recruiting defensive backs with elite length, and Stepp is no different.

At 6-foot-3 and closing in on 190 pounds, Stepp has the size that Alabama loves to have on the perimeter of its defense.

Alabaam currently has 6 total defensive backs that are 6-foot-3 or taller, most notably Dijon Lee, who broke out as a true freshman in 2025.

Stepp could be the next guy in line with elite size for the Alabama DB group.

Where Does Alabama Stand With Hayden Stepp

Stepp took his first visit to Alabama last November for the home game against Oklahoma and returned for spring practice on March 8.

“It was a great experience getting back to Tuscaloosa,” Stepp told Rivals after the visit. “One of my biggest takeaways was seeing the high energy at practice and during workouts. Everyone was competing.

“The intensity is always really high at Bama, and it was good to see. I also got the chance to sit in on some film study, which was cool to see how detailed the coaching staff is and how they break everything down with the players. I’ve always had high interest in Bama and definitely plan to set up an official visit.”

Alabama will host Stepp for an official visit at the end of May, where Coach DeBoer will hope to secure a commitment before he takes any other official visits to his other three finalists.
