AEW Star Sounds Off on “Punch Drunk” WWE Legend Bret Hart

Two-time AEW World Champion MJF has never been afraid to speak his mind.

Recently, the AEW star sounded off on WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart.

During the press tour to promote this weekend’s Double or Nothing event, MJF offered some hot takes on The Hitman, whom he described as “one of the greatest wrestlers of all time.” Still, MJF also had a few unkind remarks about the legendary WWE star.

MJF stated that Hart is “punch drunk” and frequently shares controversial opinions.

“He’s saying crazy s**t all the time, and 99% of the time, it doesn’t make sense. I just think homie is punch drunk. God bless him, he should be,” MJF said on The Ariel Helwani Show.

MJF added, “He’s one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. He’s no Shawn Michaels, but he’s one of the greatest of all time.”

MJF added that Hart was “rocked by Bill Goldberg” before expanding on why he believes Shawn Michaels is the superior wrestler to Hart.

“I’m not even talking shit. He’s a legend and a Hall of Famer. He’ll go down as one of the all-time greats. But when you put him bar for bar against Shawn, I never understood the comparison.”

Bret Hart Made a Blunt MJF Assessment in 2025

During a sit-down interview in December 2025, MJF revealed that he had a conversation with Bret Hart.

During their chat, Hart told MJF he reminded him of his bitter in-ring rival.

“He goes walking up to the stage to get to the back. He fell – because of Bill Goldberg. Not because of Bret, because of Bill,” he jokingly added.

When MJF went backstage to check on Hart after his fall, the two former World Champions had an interesting conversation.

“He goes: ‘Your promo?’ I go ‘Yeah.’ He goes: ‘You’re real good.’ I go ‘Yeah?’ And he goes: ‘You remind me of a guy I really f**king hated back in the day.’ And I think anyone watching this can put two and two together. I’ll give you a hint: it’s not Bill Goldberg!” MJF recalled, alluding to Shawn Michaels.

Like Shawn Michaels, MJF has a unique ability to get under his opponent’s skin. He also excels as a heel, a role Michaels thrived in.

MJF Will Compete at AEW Double or Nothing

Although he made time to poke fun at wrestling icon Bret Hart this week, MJF has bigger fish to fry this weekend.

The AEW star will challenge Darby Allin for the AEW World Championship at Double or Nothing at the Louis Armstrong Stadium in New York.

However, unlike most championship challengers, MJF also has something to lose at Double or Nothing.

The outspoken star risks being shaved bald, as he challenged Darby Allin to a hair versus title match.

Allin told Fox News of his sinister plans if he defeats MJF at Double or Nothing.

“[I’ll’ make a voodoo doll and torture him for the rest of his life,” the AEW World Champion said.
