After the game, manager Aaron Boone met with the media (h/t YES Network).

Boone: “Bad weekend for us, obviously… We’ve gotta find a way to get over the hump, and obviously doing a better job finishing these games off… We gotta go out and finish off some games… There’s been a lot of games where I feel like we’re having some good at-bats, we’re creating traffic, we’re giving ourselves opportunities, but you gotta cash in… We’ll keep at it and trust this group.”

Despite their cold streak, the Yankees are still tied with the Baltimore Orioles (and Rays) for the best record in the American League East (8-7).

They are also 5-4 in the nine games they have played away from the Bronx.

That said, their series with the Rays (and Athletics) highlighted some of the flaws in their lineup.

Chris Kirschner of The Athletic wrote: “The Yankees showed some life in this one after the Rays went to the bullpen, but it wasn’t enough. Rays intentionally walked Austin Wells to get to Ryan McMahon and he grounds out to end the game. Rays win 5-4 and sweep the Yankees. Yankees have lost 5 straight games.”

Up next for New York is a four-game series with the Los Angeles Angels (at home) that starts on Monday.

They then play three games against the Kansas City Royals (also at home) before heading to Boston for a series with the Red Sox on April 21.

Rays Rolling

After a slow start, the Rays now have a chance to take some momentum with them into their series with the White Sox (on Tuesday in Chicago).

They will not play the Yankees again until May 22 (in the Bronx).
