Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board are on their way to Steamboat Springs following the crash of an Epic Aircraft E1000 in the early hours of Friday morning, according to a post made on X on Friday.
Routt County Sheriff Doug Scherar confirmed to local media that four people died in a turboprop plane crash in a remote area on the south side of Emerald Mountain after midnight Friday.
“Last night, four bodies were recovered by the Routt County Sheriff’s Office, search and rescue and the coroner,” Scherar said in a statement to Sky-Hi News on Friday. “The coroner is in the process of identifying the bodies for notification.”
The area near the crash site is marked with yellow tape and closed off.
The NTSB lists ALS Aviation LLC in Franklin, Tenn., as the owner of the turboprop plane that crashed. That company was formed on Dec. 7, 2021.
Franklin is located about 20 minutes from the Nashville International Airport and 30 minutes from the John C. Tune Airport, which handles private jet and turboprop flights and is popular with musicians in the area.
Scherar said the plane crashed as it was approaching the Bob Adams Airport in Steamboat Springs from the south. The crash site is near the top of Emerald Mountain.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
