Two men were critically wounded in a shooting early Friday in Grand Crossing on the South Side.

Around 1:30 a.m., the two men, 40 and 37, were standing on the sidewalk in the 7900 block of South Maryland Avenue when an assailant approached, opened fire and then ran away, Chicago police said.

The older man was shot in the back while the younger man was wounded in the ankle, arm and torso, police said.

Both were taken to Jackson Park Hospital where they were in critical condition, officials said.
