2 Illinois State University students, 2 kids among 6 shot in Normal

A pre-dawn mass shooting in downstate Normal left two Illinois State University students and four other people including two children injured, police and the school said.

The Normal Police Department responded to a call of multiple shots fired around 2:40 a.m. Sunday in the 700 block of Franklin Avenue where they found six people with gunshot wounds, the department said.

All six — two boys, two men and two women — were taken to nearby hospitals where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

An Illinois State University spokesperson confirmed two students were injured. University police helped respond to the shooting, he said.

Police determined the shooting was an isolated incident.

No arrests have been made and anyone with information is asked to contact Normal police Detective Kyle McComber at 309-433-3415 or kmccomber@normalil.gov.
