13-Year MLB Player Boston Red Sox Must Consider Acquiring From Yankees

On Friday, the New York Yankees will open up a series with the Baltimore Orioles in the Bronx.

They are coming off a stellar road trip where then won seven out of nine games.

Earlier in the week, the team announced that they had designated Randal Grichuk for assignment.

The Yankees wrote (via X) on April 29: “Prior to today’s game, the Yankees made the following roster moves: • Recalled RHP Elmer Rodríguez (#71) from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. • Designated OF Randal Grichuk for assignment.”

Grichuk had been batting .194 with six hits, two RBI’s and eight runs in 16 games.

Since Grichuk can now be claimed (or easily acquired in a trade), it’s worth pointing out that the Red Sox could be a good fit for the 34-year-old.

He will not save the Red Sox season, but he is a veteran that can be added to their struggling outfield with no risk.

If he doesn’t perform, they could easily move on.

This season, Grichuk had his best series against the Red Sox (at Fenway Park).

In addition to adding a veteran to a young group, the Red Sox could also use a right-handed bat in their outfield.

Jarren Duran, Roman Anthony, and Wilyer Abreu are all left-handed bats.

There will likely be at least some interest around the MLB in adding Grichuk.

Cole Weintraub of NBC Sports Philadelphia wrote: “OF Randal Grichuk is a low-risk name worth watching for the Phillies. Spent first month with NYY and hit just .194, but went .333/.316/.556 over his last week before being DFA’d this AM. Phils’ RHB have struggled badly vs. LHP. Grichuk has an .816 career OPS against lefties.”
