1 killed, 1 injured in wrong-way semitruck crash north of Fort Collins

One person was killed and another seriously injured after a semitruck crossed into oncoming traffic on U.S. 287 north of Fort Collins early Saturday morning, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

The crash happened at around 4:47 a.m. near mile 355 of U.S. 287, about a mile south of Ted’s Place in Larimer County, Sgt. Ivan Alvarado said.

The early investigation shows a semitruck driven by a 25-year-old man crossed into oncoming traffic and hit a Toyota sedan head-on, killing a passenger and seriously injuring the female driver, Alvarado said.

Troopers closed the highway for the crash investigation for over seven hours, with the road reopened as of 12:10 p.m.

Investigators did not include information in the initial crash report about alcohol, drugs or drowsiness as possible factors and it’s not clear if the driver is in custody, Alvarado said.

This is a developing story and may be updated.
